Otto Preminger learned a lot from Hitchcock, publicity-wise. The autocratic Viennese director basically stars in this trailer for one of his biggest hits, based on a real murder case and shot on the actual locations in Michigan. Once again Preminger baited the censors with provocative material and got away with it, opening the doors to franker screen treatments.
I love Dick Miller in this, and I love the authentic nightclub atmosphere of the film. My favorite line: "To be uncreative you might as well be in your grave.
It's such a great, eclectic cast! Very strange to see Jack Nicholson in his matinee idol days, and he looks pretty lost in this movie, but Price, Lorre and Rathbone are no slouches. ..
The scuba-diving scene in this movie is so chilling that it ought be a standard for suspense movies.. .
Larry Cohen is one of my favorite filmmakers, and one of my favorite commentators on this site. His commentary on "God Told Me To" DVD is one the most entertaining I've ever heard..
This movie has inspired so many ripoffs and spoofs that its easy to forgot just how great it is. And the director, Wolf Rilla, might have the best horror movie name ever..
Great (albeit brief) commentary Mick! This movie a gonzo masterwork by one of the boldest genre filmmakers. I walk by a lot of the locations in NYC on a daily basis, and its hard not think of certain scenes when I find myself standing in the exact same spot they were filmed in..
