John Landis on

Explorers

Released 1985
Distributor Paramount Pictures

Joe Dante’s bittersweet ode to endless summers and the boys who lived them was bullied by the studio into a rushed release date — nevertheless the movie’s soul is undiminished thanks to the director and the open-hearted appeal of his young actors. Each making their feature film debuts, Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix play inventive young teens who realize their dream, building a spaceship that actually works. The special effects were produced by Industrial Light & Magic and the goofy, lovable aliens were created by Rob Bottin.

A new 4K Blu-ray release of Explorers is coming our way from Vinegar Syndrome, while Odyssey is releasing the soundtrack!
