Robert Harling and Andrew Bergman wrote the super-smart script for this meta-comedy about the soap opera drama behind a soap opera drama. Directed by Michael Hoffman, the cast features Sally Field as a fading afternoon star and Cathy Moriarty as her unscrupulous rival – their character’s names, “Celeste Talbert” and “Montana Moorehead” are just more evidence of the screenwriters’ precision edge satire.

Cathy Moriarty’s character was very much a Hollywood type, even though it was set in New York.

PS: I just watched The Stupids. How ironic that Tom Arnold, once thought to be the useless half of the Roseanne marriage, turned out to be a better person than she is.

Clever Name

‘Tom Arnold, once thought to be the useless half of the Roseanne marriage, turned out to be a better person than she is.’

Please tell how you reached that conclusion. I mean, they’re both talent-challenged people who got VERY lucky.
