The American Cinematheque pays to tribute to the singular (some may say Atomic-powered) vision of director Joe Dante with a four day retrospective of his most popular films.

Joe will be on hand for the entire series to introduce the films. There will also be a special advance screening of Joe’s latest film, Burying the Ex with the stars Anton Yelchin and Alexandra Daddario in attendance for a post-screening discussion.

The whole thing kicks off on Wednesday, June 11 with a double bill featuring Gremlins and Gremlins 2 (celebrating its 25th Anniversary!)

Here’s the line-up with links to ticket-buying information:

When Joe Dante’s GREMLINS, the tale of furry creatures that morph into reptilian hellraisers, became a 1984 box office hit, it made him the go-to guy for films that frame fantastical elements in everyday settings. See the original on a double bill with a 25th anniversary screening of the sequel as we open a 4-night tribute to the popular director.

Max (Anton Yelchin) knows things aren’t working out with Evelyn (Ashley Greene), but he dreads breaking up with such a Type-A personality. That problem is apparently solved when Evelyn is hit by a bus, though after Max finds a more compatible girlfriend, his ex returns as a zombie, determined to hold him to his pledges of eternal love. Director Joe Dante and lead actors join us for a Q&A following their new zom-rom-com.

Horror-comedy THE ‘BURBS stars Tom Hanks as a man whose vacation time at home is disrupted by some suspicious new neighbors. It’s followed by laugh-filled valentine to B-movie ballyhoo MATINEE, with John Goodman as a filmmaker eager to exploit Cold War paranoia with his new movie MANT (“Half man, half ant, all terror!”)

Dennis Quaid volunteers for an experiment in which he is shrunk down to microscopic size, but ends up getting injected into the bloodstream of a hypochondriac (Martin Short) in Joe Dante’s action-comedy INNERSPACE; it’s paired with a 30th anniversary screening of EXPLORERS, in which Ethan Hawke made his feature film debut playing a 12-year-old boy who dreams of going into outer space.
