Day for Night
A valentine to his own movie-mad childhood, François Truffaut stars in one of his most successful, albeit more orthodox films. It features a cast designed to romance the audience including Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Pierre Aumont, and Truffaut’s surrogate, Jean-Pierre Léaud. Truffaut plays “Ferrand,” a director mired in the making of a shallow potboiler called “Meet Pamela.” Naturally the film’s plot begins to mirror the fractured real-life relationships of cast and crew. The movie was a hit in art houses and multiplexes but led to a rift between Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard who stormed out of a screening.
