Goldfinger
After the twin successes of Dr. No and From Russia with Love suggested a cash cow in the making, the third James Bond film was manufactured to dominate the market and succeeded beyond any producer’s wildest dreams. Sean Connery is back as Bond and is nearly overshadowed by his high-profile cast-mates including Gert Frobe as the embodiment of conspicuous consumption and Honor Blackman as a barnstorming man-handler called Pussy Galore (her name is as self-explanatory as Goldfinger’s). Though conceived as escapist entertainment for weary dads, the emphasis on otherworldly gadgets like the tricked-out Aston Martin thrilled children and toy manufacturers alike (the Odd Job model kit based on Harold Sakata’s brick wall bruiser was a particular favorite).
