Dead Calm
Directed by Philip Noyce and produced by George Miller, Dead Calm is a seafaring thriller about the uneasy relationship between a married couple and a potentially murderous intruder, a visceral take on Polanski’s comparatively benign Knife in the Water. The cast is first rate with Nicole Kidman and Sam Neill as a not-so-innocent husband and wife team besieged by psycho-killer Billy Zane. Orson Welles came close to completing his own version of Charles Williams’ 1963 novel but that attempt remains a pipe dream with little footage left to tell the tale.
