Like the majority of movie fans, Christopher Lee meant a great deal to us here at Trailers From Hell. In fact, two of our very own Gurus, maestros John Landis and Joe Dante, recently spoke with Leonard Maltin over at IndieWire and offered their thoughts on the occasion of his passing. Said Our Fearless Leader about some of his favorite Christopher Lee performances:
Some of my other favorites of his are not horror films… Obviously, The Wicker Man is a great performance and a terrific movie.…but his Mycroft Holmes in The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, his Richelieu in The Three Musketeers movies… and Scaramanga in The Man With the Golden Gun, it’s a weak movie, but he’s great in it. And I think he, being related to Ian Fleming, I think he was very proud of being in that picture. Also it was a career boost. It was sort of a measure of how he had risen to some prominence and he didn’t have to take these low-rent movies.
And that’s just a few of the many remarkable roles Christopher Lee had over the course of his career. We’ve had a lot to say on many others through the years, with remarks from as wide a gamut of gurus as any one topic or playlist might offer.
So now we’ve put them all together. Below you’ll find a playlist of the collected TFH commentaries for Sir Christopher’s films.
It’s a remarkable gathering of 21 of his best films including everything from Joe Dante on Horror of Dracula and Brian Trenchard-Smith on The Mummy to Mick Garris on The Hound of the Baskervilles and Max Landis on Gremlins 2.
Here’s to the great Christopher Lee. Enjoy!
