Giveaway: Paracinema #12 featuring BTS and Joe Dante movies!

The latest issue of Paracinema, complete with an epic Brian Trenchard-Smith interview and looks at some of the Joe Dante filmography.

A few weeks ago, the fine people at Paracinema Magazine (thanks, Dylan!) — an independently produced and distributed magazine for lovers of genre films — sent me a copy of their latest issue (#12) which features as its cover that famous shot of Brian Trenchard-Smith on fire, an arresting image to be sure. Axiomatically, you’re not supposed to judge books and magazines by their covers, but when it’s that image, I feel like doing so is a safe bet.

And, sure enough, the innards of the latest Paracinema are ablaze (sorry), running a course through genre films that the writers clearly, dearly love Inside are looks at video gems like Megaforce, explorations of subterfuge in Mamet’s House of Games, talk of revenge cinema and Fulci and the lost art of adult films and loads of other great features. It also includes a look at Our Fearless Leader’s film Explorers and a retrospective of the progressively dismal films in the franchise spawned by Joe’s 1981 film The Howling.

The main feature, though — an exhaustive interview with Mr. Brian Trenchard-Smith himself — makes the issue. It’s a good read and it’s always nice when BTS is willing to share stories about his 41 “crimes against cinema.”

If you’ve got a couple hours and a couple bucks, go support independent publishing and pick this issue up. It’s not ground-breaking (it doesn’t have to be), but it’s a fine read that bleeds the passion obviously spent creating it.

In case you don’t believe me, I’ll put my blog where my mouth is:

We’re giving away five (5) copies.

To enter, all you have to do is send your name and address to tfhcontests [at] gmail [dot] com. That’s it! I’d wager your chances are pretty good, so get cracking.

In the meantime, you can follow Paracinema on Twitter or hit up their Facebook page

I thought Joe and the TFH gang might enjoy my own take on the HOWLING sequels, on my site Death Ensemble.  Here’s the link:  http://deathensemble.com/blog/2011/07/14/the-howling-7-rebirths-that-should-have-been-abortions/

    Enjoy!
